A nuclear bomb is detonated in Los Angeles, and the nation devolves into unprecedented chaos. My quick rating - 4,8/10. Holy crap, looks like the main bad guy in this is Dallas Page, you may know him as Diamond or DDP. The flick attempts to bring a twist to the home invasion genre by setting the story in the wild west. While it offers an interesting premise and features Dallas Page as a key antagonist, the execution falls short in several aspects. The film revolves around a family of homesteaders who find themselves at the mercy of a gang of outlaws. This revelation of DDP's involvement as one of the bad guys (I was wrong about being the main guy), although unexpected, adds a certain level of intrigue for fans of wrestling who may recognize him. However, the film fails to fully capitalize on his presence and doesn't explore his character beyond the initial surprise factor.
One of the few things the film does right is trying to put the home invasion concept against a Western backdrop. The bad guy-outlaws vs the homesteading family dynamic makes for an interesting setup to the action to come. The action itself is merely passable. Nothing jumps out as exciting or thrilling, which is a big no-no for a film relying so heavily on raw intensity. One of the few high points of the flick is a little girl from said homesteading family. Not a lot is said about her character, but she is memorable nonetheless. She's resourceful and quick-witted whenever danger seems imminent, and even though she is the only standout, she gets remembered among a forgettable cast. All in all, "Homestead" falls flat on its face with regard to actually delivering a film worth caring about. The plot was paper-thin, the action was subpar, and the characters, save the little girl, did not impress whatsoever. Missed opportunities, mediocre action, and poor characters drag this flick down from being even a semi-decent time. If you're into wrestling and would love to see DDP in a different role, you might get your jollies off with "Homestead." Otherwise, it's a movie you can certainly skip.
