A young couple travels to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown and attend its mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly descends into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.

My quick rating - 7,1/10. This movie is a trip and a half. It is gorgeously filmed and takes the viewer on a journey through a psychological nightmare. It is more on a drug induced type of thing. I don't know how to put it, basically what I expect was going on with Charles Manson and his cult of followers. And yes, that is what this is, a group of friends visit a friends hometown for a special mid-summer festival which is the underlying name for a violent, twisted cult ritual. Once in XX years (i didn't catch the exact number) there is a ritual performed to help the crops grow, among many other things you learn throughout the movie. I won't spoil it, but this is one that has to be seen. It is well made and when it needs to get your attention, it has no problem doing so. Very unique experience for sure. Check it out. I can see why it did well in the theater for being unknown, and why it had no chance and hitting mainstream. Too bizarre for that to happen.
