The cast of Star Trek : The Next Generation become major motion picture stars in their first feature length film. The story begins in the 23rd century as the U. S.S. Enterprise-B is christened by none other than Captain James T. Kirk. This new ship is barely out of spacedock when a distress call is received from an El Aurien ship disabled because of a powerful energy wave. The story then moves ahead to the 24th century and the Enterprise-D under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, again the energy wave and a meglomanical El Aurien threaten the Enterprise. Picard must team with Kirk to save an entire planet from destruction.
