Day of the Triffids
Everyone on Earth has been struck with blindness because of light emitted from a comet that lit up the skies. Bill Masen (John Duttine) did not watch the comet arrive and thinks he is the only person left on Earth that has his sight left. He finds Jo Payton (Emma Relph) who he calls his soul mate and Jo can also see. They begin to find many more people who can see and plan to start life all over, together. One thing they never expected was a walking plant called Triffid that has an appetite for flesh. It has broken free from the zoo where it was kept under lock and key and now has the taste for human flesh. The blind are at its mercy so it’s up to the sighted population to help them escape the Tiffid’s wrath and hunger.
Bill, who works at a farm for deadly plants called triffids, was temporarily blinded by one of them and is now in hospital. The hour approaches for the bandages over his eyes to come off, but a strange silence pervades the room.
Bill leaves the hospital to learn that everyone in the area - perhaps everyone in the world - has gone blind. He, and anyone else who didn't see the comet the previous night, are the exceptions. Meanwhile, the triffids are attacking.
Bill and his new friend Jo find a group of other sighted people, some of whom plan to form a new community in the country, but no one takes seriously Bill's warning that the triffids are a serious threat.
Bill is kidnapped and forced to be the eyes for a group of blind people.
Bill's quest to find Jo leads him into the country, where he finds that disease and the triffids are wiping out humanity.
Six years later, Bill and Jo consider the future of their farm as the triffids grow in numbers and a paramilitary group arrives with unpleasant orders.
