Pawn Stars
Long before banks, ATMS and check-cashing services, there were pawn shops. Pawning was the leading form of consumer credit in the United States until the 1950s, and pawn shops are still helping everyday people make ends meet. PAWN STARS takes you inside the colorful world of the pawn business. At the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop on the outskirts of Las Vegas, three generations of the Harrison family--grandfather Richard, son Rick and grandson Corey--jointly run the family business, and there's clashing and camaraderie every step of the way. The three men use their sharp eyes and skills to assess the value of items from the commonplace to the truly historic, including a 16th-century samurai sword, a Super Bowl ring, a Picasso painting and a 17th-century stay of execution. It's up to them to determine what's real and what's fake, as they reveal the often surprising answer to the questions on everyone's mind, "What's the story behind it"? and "What's it worth?"
Rick checks out a civil war cannon, which includes a test firing. The Old Man gets his eyes checked after missing the mint mark on a rare coin. Big Hoss tries on a Roman helmet.
Rick looks at a Chuck Berry guitar, a civil war saber, a totem, and a cash register. Big Hoss bets the Old Man he can sell a Rolex for $5,000.
Big Hoss buys a classic Chris Craft that needs a "little" work. Dad doesn't approve. But Dad gets taken on a Colt revolver that the owner cleaned to the point of destruction.
It's clear that this is no ordinary pawn shop as the Pawn Stars wheel and deal items ranging from an old school Pac-Man to a Medieval Jousting Helmet. If these items are as real as their owner's say they are--they could be worth up to $30,000! Then, an old timer brings in a pristine 1884 Trap Door rifle that the guys buy hoping that it still fires.
Rick buys an old, Mafia favorite the 1962 Lincoln Continental with "suicide doors," but as the repair bills add up, so does the tension between him and the old man. Then, a guy brings in a billfold from 1857 that he found while cleaning out his garage. The best part? It's stuffed with Confederate money.
It's one of the oldest forms of banking, and until the 1950's, it was the leading form of consumer credit in the U.S. Now, the fascinating world and history of the pawn shop is revealed in the 13 episode long series centers on the only family-owned pawn shop in Las Vegas, where three generations of men--grandfather, father and son--entertainingly clash while running the business together.
A young man wants to trade a 1750 Blunderbuss gun for an engagement ring. Will Rick exchange vows and buy the gun or will he get cold feet and run? Then, the Pawn Stars get an opportunity to purchase an ejection seat allegedly from a World War II fighter jet, but is this deal destined to crash and burn?
Rick and Big Hoss see a potpourri weird and wonderful artifacts come into the store including, alas, a replica and a stripped and dilapidated Coke machine that Rick has restored beyond all recognition. The old Man counts the money and stacks his gold bars.
The pawn shop is invaded by Ford Model As and Rick buys and restores one. Big Hoss checks out a calf roping machine which, of course, Chumlee has to test ride. Rick and the Old Man deal with Peaches habitual tardiness.
Big Hoss goes stupid and Rick challenges him to a test. Rick buys and restores a gas pump.
The Pawn Stars are used to paying big money for celebrity John Hancocks but will they know how to price one from the actual John Hancock? Then the guys have an opportunity to buy an allegedly authentic Indiana Jones whip--but it all boils down to two words: Harrison Ford. And finally, will the purchase of a hot item by one of his underlings land Corey in hot water.
Rick is asked to buy an airplane, A motorcycle, and a map of Boston from 1735...also Chumlee is quizzed on artwork.
Chumlee is excited about test firing a crossbow until an expert explains the risks. Peaches gets to price a stack of Playboy magazines. Rick buys a complete US Army Air Corps uniform and tries to close a couple sales.
The owner of a Harley Davidson drive a hard bargain and Chumlee wants it. Then Big Hoss drives a hard bargain on a Kiss pinball machine.
A customer brings in a rare, 300 year old gun that is a true museum piece. It also comes in handy helping Rick with his stress. Other customers claim their items are associated with Willie Nelson and Charles Lindbergh but can't prove it.
A customer pawns a collection of shark teeth including a megalodon fossil. Chumlee buys a kite after hanging it up on a light pole. After building out a Shelby Corbra that Rick bought as a chassis and body the old man bumps Chumlee for the test drive.
Rick "borrows" the Old Man's Chrysler Imperial to fix it up as a surprise then the trio brutally lies to him about what happened to the car while it was being refurbished. A customer brings in an fascinating old treasure chest he can't open.
A customer consigns some Antarctica memorabilia. Ironically Rick restores a barber chair.
When Big Hoss tells Rick he bought a hot air balloon he would have been smart to climb in and fly away. Even the customers who brought in a pair of antique handcuffs and a bottle of medicinal whiskey couldn't stem Rick's anger.
The old man scolds the staff about profit margin and gives them an incentive to improve. The winner is a surprise to everyone.
In this Christimas Special episode of Pawn Stars the team is visited by numerous customers. See what happens with the various pawned items during the holiday season.
The pawn shop staff exchanges some strange Chistmas gifts. A customer's Revolutionary War currency provide an intriguing history lessons.
Chumlee tries his hand at wine making using an antique demijohn. Rick test fires a signal cannon he bought.
Rick buys a speedboat that needs a lot of work. Worst, the seats are too narrow for Chmlee and Big Hoss. The Old Man sends Chumlee on an errand but he turns up missing. An artist pitches his line of gold devil figurines.
Deals don't work out as Rick pays too much for a clock and his good purchase results in damage to the store. Big Hoss gets a distasteful delivery job.
