Story Synopsis:
Mike Myers takes his franchise to the next level with "Austin Powers In Goldmember" starring in multiple roles including yet another new nemesis...the skin-eating Dutch villain with 24 Karats of glowing evil in his shorts: Goldmember! When Austin’s dad, Nigel Powers (Caine) is kidnapped by Dr. Evil and Goldmember, Austin must travel back to the year 1975 to save him, but only after joining forces with his new leading lady, Foxxy Cleopatra (Knowles). (Suzanne Hodges)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD exhibits a sharp and detailed picture. As with other titles in the "Austin Powers" series, colors are quite smashing, with rich saturation, accurate fleshtones, and deep blacks. There is some occasional film grain noticed in connection with the use of opticals inherent in the source element. With the exception of occasional and minor edge enhancement, and infrequent pixelization, this is a great DVD picture. (Suzanne Hodges)
Soundtrack:
The multichannel discrete soundtrack presentations offer consistently liberal, aggressive spatial engagement with plenty to offer in terms of the stereo surrounds and back surround. Overall volume level seems a little high. The music provides for almost complete envelopment of the listening space, including the substantial use of the back surround channel, which can equal the activity of the left and right surrounds. Fidelity is top-notch, and tonality in general is nicely balanced. Voices are abundantly clear and distinct, and quite well placed with the visuals. The music score is a wonderful recording, with a deep, satisfying low-end presence. Deep bass in general is certainly aggressive in nature, with an occasionally tendency to be intense, with full extension below 25 Hz, including the surrounds, as well as substantial .1 LFE activity. The DTS-ES version seems to be distinguished from the Dolby Digital version, in terms of low-end articulation and spatial resolution, through actually somewhat less than expected for the latter. This soundtrack is clearly a standout from the first two Austin Powers installments for its significant engagement of dimension, dynamic range, and deep bass. (Perry Sun)
