Siege in Superspace
The crew are thrust through a black hole and into superspace. When they pause for repairs, they help a civilization defend against weapons gone out of control. Once that threat has been dealt with, they abondon the planet, not telling its inhabitants that their star is about to go nova, and that the Enterprise is going to increase the nova to form a black hole and ride that home.
