The application of heat Is one of the oldest forms of treatment devised by man. Various applications from hot stones, to containers containing hot fluids etc however the most suitable substance for the purpose of moxibustion was the dried herb Artemisia ie mugwort. Practitioners use moxa to warm regions and acupuncture points with the intention of stimulating circulation through the points and inducing a smoother flow of blood and qi.
