The three parts of the book contain surveys of Soviet Jewry's struggle for freedom and against antisemitism and discrimination since 1967, and its impact on Soviet-USA relations. Each part includes "Readings" with translations of official documents on the "Jewish question" in the USSR, letters of protest, excerpts from proceedings of trials of Jewish activists and dissidents, statements of American politicians, etc. On Soviet antisemitism and anti-Zionism, see pp. 1-44, "Introduction: The Legacy of Anti-Semitism in Russia and the Soviet Union, " and pp. 45-123, "The Setting for the Soviet Jewish Movement for Freedom: Official and Grass-Roots Anti-Semitism."
