Two couples, Charles Kent (Francis Matthews) and his wife, Diana (Suzan Farmer), and Charles’s brother, Alan Kent (Charles Tingwell) and his wife, Helen (Barbara Shelley), are vacationing in the Carpathian Mountains. While eating in a small village, they are warned to stay away from Dracula’s castle in the mountains. Even though Dracula is said to have been dead for years, the villagers still fear his return to his castle. The two couples refuse to believe the local legend and hire a carriage to tour the area of the castle. Once near the castle, the driver becomes frightened and leaves the couples stranded in the forest. When another carriage stops, they get in before they notice there is no driver. They are taken to Dracula’s castle and are invited by the butler to spend the night. One of them is murdered during the night and Dracula rises from his grave. The remaining three escape and seek shelter at a nearby monastery, where Father Shandor (Andrew Keir) joins them in their battle against Dracula.
