The League face off against the transformed Despero who is able to transform matter into living forms and pit them against the League. After taunting Despero, Batman and Vixen are sent inside the tower Despero has taken over where he has recreated the Flame of Py'tar that had caused his transformation. He tells the two heroes his origin, how he came to be the ruler of Kalanor but was laid low after his defeat by the League.
He reveals that the Flame is needed to rejuvenate himself and as he bathes in the flames, Batman frees himself and Vixen, telling her to send in the League to destroy the Flame and, hopefully, Despero.
When she leaves the tower, however, Vixen finds the League unconcious.
